SOUTH MIAMI, FL · JUNK REMOVAL

Junk Removal South Miami — Not the Same City as South Miami Heights

South Miami is its own incorporated city, about 2.3 square miles, bordering the University of Miami and Coral Gables along Red Road. It runs its own city hall, police department, and Solid Waste Division — entirely separate from South Miami Heights, an unincorporated Miami-Dade community further south near Cutler Ridge that runs under county waste rules instead. Mixing the two up is easy; the trash rules are not interchangeable.

South Miami Runs Its Own Bulk Trash System

Unlike neighboring areas that run on the county’s 311 bulk program, the City of South Miami’s Solid Waste Division handles its own bulk collection, with its own pricing:

  • Free Weekly Allowance: Up to one-half truckload (12.5 cubic yards) collected free on your scheduled route.
  • Overage Charges: Anything past 12.5 cubic yards is billed at $156 per half-truckload or any part of one.
  • Special Item Fees: Appliances (refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, water heaters, AC units, microwaves) and furniture pieces carry a $75-per-item city charge, and can only be set out up to 24 hours before your collection day.
  • Placement Rules: Standard bulk trash can go out up to 7 days ahead of pickup, placed within 5 feet of the pavement edge and at least 3 feet from mailboxes, vehicles, trees, and utility poles — closer than that and the city can leave it and fine you.
  • Prohibited Items: Construction debris, roofing, wood decking, fencing, dirt, and paint are excluded from city pickup entirely.
  • Self-Haul Option: Residents can also haul directly to the North Dade Landfill (21500 NW 47th Ave) or South Dade Landfill (23707 SW 97th Ave), billed by weight.

Miami-Dade’s Neighborhood Trash and Recycling Centers are built for county waste-fee customers, not South Miami’s separate municipal system. Between the $75 item fees, the $156 overage charge, and the excluded construction materials, a lot of jobs end up cheaper and faster with a private crew than with the city’s fee schedule.

How It Works

  1. Confirm your location. Make sure you’re in the City of South Miami (near UM), not South Miami Heights — the rules and pricing are different.
  2. Send photos. Text photos of your items to (786) 889-6656 — no need to calculate half-truckload limits or per-item city fees yourself.
  3. Same-day or next-day pickup. Our two-person crew handles all the lifting, loads the truck, and sweeps up.

Our Guarantee: Flat price confirmed before we arrive, licensed and insured — or we make it right.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is South Miami the same as South Miami Heights?
No. South Miami is an incorporated city near the University of Miami. South Miami Heights is an unincorporated community further south that runs under Miami-Dade County waste rules.

Does South Miami get Miami-Dade County’s free 311 bulk pickup?
No — South Miami runs its own municipal Solid Waste Division, separate from the county 311 program.

What are the city’s volume limits and overage charges?
The city collects up to 12.5 cubic yards (a half-truckload) free per weekly route. Beyond that, it’s $156 per half-truckload or part of one, plus $75 per item for appliances and furniture.

Can I self-haul to a landfill instead?
Yes. South Miami residents can bring material directly to the North Dade Landfill or South Dade Landfill, where costs are based on scale weight.

Does the city pick up construction debris or fencing?
No. Construction waste, wood decking, roofing, and fencing are excluded from city bulk collection — that’s where private pickup comes in.
